Not every child is the same. This is one fact that most parent overlook when setting their expectations for their children. These expectations can be of simple everyday things like communicating, reading, writing or doing their own work. What one must understand is that every child develops at with a different degree, and expecting them to do tasks at the same rate as others him/her age isn’t always the right mind-set. At times, certain kids need a little extra help and care for them to be able to grow to their full potential. Here’s where therapy comes into play. At In-Sync, we believe in a friendly supportive approach towards child development.
Usually parents thinks that childhood is a carefree time of one’s life with no worries. This might be true for many, but isn’t a norm. Children are susceptible to all those issues that an adult may face. According to psychologists, as many as one in five children may have an identifiable mental ailment that requires treatment. Counselling can help deal with such issues and many others too. We, at In-Sync believe in early therapeutic intervention so that we can find the cause of an issue and remove it from its roots. Here are a few warning signs that you can look out for:
- Anxiety and stress over things
- Loss of interest in activities that would normally entertain them
- Changes in sleeping patterns
- Loss of appetite or reluctance to eat meals
- Frequent illnesses
- Mood swings and constant anger
- Restlessness and inability to concentrate
- Inability to express thoughts or communicate effectively
- Wanting to be alone or avoiding company
- Persistent sadness or hopelessness
“Some children might exhibit physical symptoms, such as the sudden onset of unexplained head or stomach aches, changes in appetite or sleep disturbances,” says Stella Kavoukian, a mediator and therapist in Toronto who works with children and adults. “These concerns may need to be checked out by the child’s regular doctor, but are often associated with stressful experiences in her life and can be alleviated by speaking with a therapist. Parents aren’t always equipped to know what to do.”
If your child shows any of these symptoms, there might be a serious issue on hand. During such a time, showing a child that he isn’t alone will really help him get out of his fears and gain the confidence he needs to be able to face the world and it’s challenges. The most important thing a child needs during this time is the support of his near and dear ones and a positive nurturing environment wherein he can grow to his fullest potential. Therapy provides undivided attention and focus through a highly professional and personalised teaching approach. Counselling address a child’s physical, emotional and social needs, and also ensures their creative and intellectual well-being. Some options in therapy include:
Play Therapy
Behavioural Therapy
Occupational Therapy
Sensory Integration Therapy
Special Education
